Information about Azerbaijan regions
The amazing landscape of the mountain massifs of the Sheki-Zagatala
region attract interest not only by their wonderful nature but also by
the ancient relics, which can be seen everywhere. It convincingly
proves the necessity and aspiration of people for creation and
preserving of real values. În the territory of Sheki-Zagatala region
Zagatala and Ilisu Reserves are located, and in a southern part of
Sheki uplands where in natural conditions the famous Eldar pine grows
the Turyanchay Reserve is created. The Sheki-Zagatala region is the
area where the best grades of tobacco, and also corn, rice, apples,
pears, nuts are grown, a silkworm is cultivated.
The century-old east plane trees (in Azeri - chinars), which have
diameter of 5-6 meters, grow here. Plane trees can be met even in
cities. In the city of Zagatala, in Dede Gorgud Park 8 plane trees
grow; one of them has age of 700 years. The amazing beauty of these
trees involves both local residents, and visitors of city. One of the
most ancient cities of Azerbaijan, Sheki is situated at southern slopes
of the Greater Caucasus on the background of white snow tops. In Kish
village of Sheki district the most ancient Temple of Caucasian Albania
- Orthodox Church of Saint Elias is preserved. The temple was built at
the end of 1st - beginning of 2nd century.
Up to present days
the faithful come here in order to pray to Cod and to apply coins to
church"s altar wall making a wish. Since the beginning of time a belief
exists that a coin sticks to a wall like magnetized if man has clean
and kind intentions. The Palace of Sheki Khans is one of the finest
creatures of Azerbaijan architectures. During its construction special
anti-seismic belts were used, thanks to which the palace came unhurt in
spite of frequent earthquake. It is incredible, but unique colored
lifting stained-glass windows - shebeke were unhurt as well.
In
one square meter of shebeke there are 3 - 7 thousands details. They
were created without glue and nails with the help of solution,
composition of which is unknown up to present days. One stained-glass
window was assembled during 5-6 months. Thanks to lifting of these
windows the hall can turn into verandah in several minutes. |
