While traveling along the mountain line in the Nakhchivan Republic, we
admire the wonderful nature and the relics; and even can drop in hided
in the valley settlements. The cities of this land differ by their
historical and artistic values, cozy side streets, squares and imitable
hospitality.
People lived here from ancient times; the road network has existed 2000
years ago. The abundance of the excavations places is evidence of it.
Ruins of the old cities, maintained mausoleums, caravanserais, other
monuments, coins found in these places are the proofs of the antique
history of this land.
Capital of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is a city of Nakhchivan -
one of the ancient cities of the East, In the 12th century new
direction in the architecture, which art specialists would be calling
later Nakhchivan Architecture School, had become developing in
Nakhchivan. One of the brightest representatives of this school is
famous architect Ajami ibn Abu Bakr Nakhchivani. Two among the created
masterpieces have been maintained at present. These are-mausoleum of
Yusuf Ibn Kuseir (1162) and mausoleum of Moininakhalun(1186 ã.).
The fortress of Alinja was one of the most powerful defensive works of
its time. The fortress was built on the top of the steep mountain with
almost sheer rocks near to Julfa town. Strong stonewalls passed in
several lines from the mountain feet. The canals, carved in the slopes
and connected between each other, gathered rain and snow and nourished
shaded basins with water.
The fortress was inaccessible for the enemies.
At a height of 2424 m above the sea level among alpine meadows there is
the beautiful Batabat Lake. This is one of the most picturesque corners
of the Nakhchivan Republic. Local places absorbed all beauty and charm
of the nature. The artificial lake, which was created near the Gazanchi
village of 1500 m is also the adornment of this territory.
At a height of 1400 m in the Shahbuz district not far from the spring
of well-known Badamli mineral water the Resort with the same name was
built. |
