Information about Azerbaijan regions
The Lankaran-Astara region is known as subtropical area with extremely
picturesque nature, rich flora and fauna. Not casually, Hirkan National
Park and Gizilagaj Reserve are formed here. The sea gulf at the mouth
of Kura River, surrounded with thickets of canes attracts the migratory
birds, migrating in spring and autumn (Azerbaijan bird fly).
In Hirkan National Park unique kinds of plants grow, the age of some
trees more than thousand years. Talish Mountains are covered with thick
wood, main part of which constitute relict trees, including demiragaj
(ferrous tree). This is the rare breed, characteristic only for
Azerbaijan and Iran. Rigid wood of the demiragaj allows making even
some details for textile industry. The Gizilagaj Reserve created in
1929 is included in the list of water-marsh lands, having the
international value as a place of habitation of a waterfowl birds
(Kamsare, 1976). Such birds as geese, swans, ducks, pelicans, herons,
flamingo, etc winter in the Reserve. |
