Round tower in Mardakan at the height of 16 meters is at the centre of
the square yard (25x25 meters), paved with the stone walls at the
height of 7 meters. Defensive facilities were in the upper floor. Two
inscriptions say that "the tower was built in the days of Gershasp, son
of Farrukh-zadeh I of the son of Manuchehr X", date of the tower
construction is marked as the year of 1232 and the name of the
architect - Abdulmajid, son of Masud. |

| An unusual shape and originality of the Maiden Tower, a big amount of
legends are connected with the Tower are the reason of constant
interest to the Tower of the scientist-investigators, tourists. Maiden
Tower rises in the south-eastern part of the lcheri Sheher (Old City).
The height of the tower is 29,5 m, the diameter - 16,5 m. The Tower
consists of 8 tiers and looks like a huge stone cylinder, constructed
on the jut of the coastal rock that drops off plumb. A stone dome with
a round hole blocks each tier of the tower. A connection between the
tiers was carried out with the help of the spiral stone staircase, laid
in the thick of the wall. Beginnings from the second tire niches are
placed in the thick of walls inside of which a potter pipe with a
diameter of 30 cm is laid. |

| Shirvanshahs palace ensemble | |

| An architectural ensemble of the Shirvanshahs" Palace formed at the
beginning of the 15th century is one of the pearl of the Azerbaijan
architecture. Its structures are located on the highest point of one of
the hills of Icheri Sheher. The ensemble is spread over three towered
above each over terraces and is seen far from the sea. Its
constructions crowned with domes, with the portals and the minaret,
irreproachable made details, the unique drawing with the ornaments and
inscriptions of delicate and deep carving, the great masonry preserved
its youth for ages and reached to us in all their beauty. |

| The word "Atashgah" means "House of Fire", "Place of Fire". The temple
was built on a place of "eternal fires" - burning outputs of natural
gas in Surakhany settlement. These fires had been esteemed from the
ancient shrine of fire worthshipers - Zoroastrians. Throughout 17-18th
centuries around the sanctuary chapels, cells, and caravanserai were
built. At the beginning of the 19th century, the temple looked as one
can see at present. |
